How safe is Stockholm?

Safety at night:

Safety at night:Safe

Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, has a generally low crime rate and is considered safe for women traveling alone at night. The city is well-lit and is often bustling with people, even in the late hours, which adds a level of security. Public transportation runs smoothly and in a timely manner, making it reliable to use at night. However, like any other big city, it is always wise to stay alert and avoid less crowded and poorly lit areas, especially late at night.
Public transportation:

Public transportation:Safe

Public transportation in Stockholm is considered highly reliable and secure. Commuters can confidently use buses, subways, trams, and ferries around the city. The stations are well-lit and well-monitored. Additionally, the system is quite efficient. Though the country is safe, it is still advised as with any other places, to be mindful of belongings and cautious during late night travels.
Street harassment:

In Stockholm, there are instances of street harassment but overall it is generally lower than in many other global cities. The city is known for its egalitarian and respectful society. Nevertheless, it is still advisable to exercise basic caution, particularly during late-night hours.
Petty crimes:

Petty crimes:Very low

Like most parts in Sweden, Stockholm is considered very safe even for solo female travelers. Petty crimes such as pickpocketing and bag snatching can happen occasionally, usually in crowded places like buses and trains, as well as busy tourist spots. However, with basic caution, such incidents can be easily avoided. Overall, the risk is relatively low.
Tap water:

Tap water:Very safe

Tap water in Stockholm is known to be of high quality, safe, and fresh enough to drink directly from the tap. The local municipalities ensure that the water undergoes purification processes to maintain hygiene standards. It is also environmentally friendly as it reduces the usage of plastic water bottles.

Solo travel experience

I felt mostly safe in the city, everyone was respectfull and peacefull. Even alone at night, the streets were quite empty but mostly well lighted and didn't had any problems as a solo traveler. I went tobars alome as well again, a simple no was enough to keep the umwanted attention away. It's an expensive city so I mainly ait from the supermarket. Bu the bar Stampen in Gamla Stan was quite nice (expensive though). Bartenders always kept my stuff and drink safe when I went to bathroom etc. I stayed in a hostel room of 12 people and almost all of them were men so next time I would choose a smaller room and maybe an all female but still I haven't had any issues.

Solo travel experience

I felt very safe as a solo female traveller in Stockholm. Highly recommend the Abba museum and fotografiska. The vasa museum was also excellent. Also the Bageri on the river was amazing but basically anywhere you can get cardamom buns is a win. In general I loved Stockholm and literally left wanting to move there!

Solo travel experience

Stockholm was my first solo trip abroad and I believe it's a great place for a first solo journey. I was there for 3 nights, I felt very safe, and everything went smoothly. I walked quite a lot of kilometers, as there was always something that caught my attention and I couldn't get enough of it.

I felt completely safe and everybody was helpful and friendly. I can clearly recommend the city, also for solo travelling. As student you can get many discounts in museums, which is perfect if you want to educate your self a bit on your trip. You must know everything is quite expensive in this city.

I discovered that Stockholm is modern and progressive, while still respecting its history. The architecture is stunning, and the city itself is huge. Despite its size, I feel safe walking alone at night, thanks to well-lit streets and the presence of people of all ages. If Stockholm is on your travel list, I highly recommend a visit.

Solo travel experience

I went there alone last year for 3 nights and it was wonderful. I felt very safe, and the place itself was beautiful. One day, I took a free guided walk, another day I visited the Vasa Museum, and then I just explored Gamla stan and the area around my hostel. I would like to go back.

Group travel experience

We went there for a weekend getaway. We felt really safe. We took part in a two-hour canal cruise with a guide, who spoke about the bridges, which was really cool. We rode Lime electric scooters on several islands and it turned out to be the fastest and easiest way to see as much as possible. Stockholm is really beautiful, especially because of all these colorful buildings. Really pleasant, fresh Scandinavian air. During the day the weather was warm, although temperatures dropped in the evening. On Saturday evening we also visited an ice bar, which was also something different and original. Some things are expensive, but we managed to find places where we could eat at a reasonable price both nights.

Solo travel experience

Stockholm was my first solo trip, I felt very safe and fantastic there. I stayed at the hostel "STF af Chapman & Skeppsholmen", I chose it because I wanted some company, as it was my first solo trip. The hostel is very close to the city center, I reached 90% of the main attractions on foot, and then I used public transport, which was also very safe. Skansen was really nice, I also loved the Royal Palace and took a tour of the archipelago. It took me 3.5 hours and it was really beautiful, I did it at sunset. Food can be expensive, but there are plenty of tasty pastries for little money and it's definitely worth treating yourself to a meal at least a few times to try local food, I loved it! Berries have my heart.

Stockholm is a very safe city. People are friendly and its easy to get around with trains and busses. Beware of your belongings, could be some pick pocketers. Relatively good prices on stuff and they have information centers almost everywhere. Good luck!

Stockholm is a safe city where people respect your boundaries and are very respectful. Rules are important and Swedes respect them. In Stockholm I don’t mind going home alone even if it’s late and dark.

I travelled Stockholm, which was my first solo trip. i admired sightseeing. It was quite expensive but you can try public transport instead of airport express and IKEA instead of "Meatballs for the People" if you are broken student like me :) and you should join free city tours, which works with donation and happens mostly everyday.
