How safe is Aveiro?

Aveiro is a lovely calm city near the ocean. I have lived for five years in the center of the city, walking everywhere, day and night, and always got home safe. Compared to many Portuguese cities, I consider Aveiro one of the safest - however I do not encourage long walks at night if you are alone, be cautious and on alert while walking in hidden places. The city isn't big, but people there have big, big hearts. 🌊🩷

Aveiro is a small time with a low crime rate. I've lived here almost my whole life and neither me or any of my friends was ever robbed or physically assaulted. At least in Aveiro city center or Praia da Barra, you can walk wherever, day or night, even as a solo woman.

Is Aveiro safe to travel?

Group travel experience

I went to Aveiro with four friends, we were 5 in total. I could easily say it was one of the nicest places Ive ever seen. People are really friendly, they love to talk to people and their conversations are fun. You can make friends, anytime/anywhere in Aveiro. They make great cocktails and the cocktails are budget friendly! There are less options of vegetarian food compared to other european countries but of course its not impossible. During my 10 days in Aveiro, there was not a night I went back to my hostel before 2am and the city has never felt dangerous to me. We stayed in Pousadas de Juventude, the rooms were kind of small but since we did not pay big attention to where we were staying, it was all fine for us, it was around 15mins by walking to the city.
