How safe is Philippines?

Phoebe

The safety of the Philippines can vary depending on the area. Generally, tourist destinations and major cities like Manila, Cebu, and Davao are relatively safe, but it's always wise to stay vigilant and aware of your surroundings, especially in crowded or unfamiliar areas. Some regions, particularly in Mindanao, may have higher levels of crime and occasional civil unrest, so it's advisable to check travel advisories and exercise caution when traveling there.

Just need to be extra careful in handling your belongings and always be mindful since there can be pickpockets in Manila. Generally, you dont have to worry for ur safety unless your in very very very crowded place and you are a foreigner

Is Philippines safe to travel?

4.5 /5

Based on 10 experiences

Solo travel experience

I spent 3 weeks in the Philippines in April. I stayed in Cebu, Bohol, and Siquijor. I have the fondest memories of Siquijor, a fantastic, peaceful, beautiful island full of attractions. Very safe, with incredibly friendly and helpful locals. The best experience I had was Cebu canyoneering at Kawasan Falls. If you go to Bohol, I recommend the Tarsier Sanctuary. There is a bit of bureaucracy, but it's worth going through. Arriving in early April I had two typhoons circulating around, so it was rainy and cloudy for a few days, but then the sun came out.

Solo travel experience

My first solo trip took place in April to the Philippines and I felt very safe there. I met so many amazing people, stopped in Siargao, Siquijor, Moalboal, Port Barton, El Nido and Coron. It was amazing.

Is Philippines worth visiting?

Overall rating

4.5 /5

Solo travel experience

The Philippines was one of the countries on my list during my solo trip to Southeast Asia. I also visited Vietnam, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Qatar. If someone asked me which country in Asia I liked the most, I would say it was the Philippines. Somehow, I felt best there, most experienced the local climate. People were wonderful, smiling, funny, talkative and friendly. And of course, nature was also breathtaking. I stayed in hostels, where I met many interesting people from different parts of the world, as well as many Filipinos. The food was not as refined as in Thailand or Vietnam, but it was quite good. I rode a motorcycle, swam under waterfalls, and savored Filipino beer.

Solo travel experience

I spent 4 weeks in the Philippines and absolutely loved it. My favorite place was Palawan, but I also really enjoyed Boracay, Siquijor, and Bohol. I recommend a three-day and two-night trip to Palawan. It was the best thing I've ever done. The snorkeling was amazing and the water there is unbelievable.

About Me

Hello everyone! I’m Gayle, 23. I am graduating from uni in June (yay) so I plan to just travel for a while after that. I’ve already been doing some traveling since January and have been to Thailand, Japan and just got back from Bali last week.
