Rambo Returns

Tuesday, September 2nd, 2008

During my stay in Asuncion, the capital city of Paraguay, i came across two fellow couchsurfers who´s story i feel deserves a special tribute. German born Igel and Paola Zimmermann sold everything they owned like myself and set off on a wild honeymoon adventure that is currently now in it´s seventh year traveling the world.

ON BICYCLES!!

Thats right folks, push bikes!!

Having fallen in love with Colombia, they decided to purchase some land and spent a year renovating a beautiful´Finka´ house as a future investment. During their stay a friend gave them a new addition to the family, a rat terrier puppy rightly named ´Rambo´.

Rambo with father Igel..

Once their new house was complete they decided to offer the property for other cyclists to stay for free and continue onwards in search of freedom, inspiration and a chance to live life to the max..

THIS TIME WITH RAMBO.

Who even has a custom made trailor of his own.

And of course his own passport.

Which is filled with positive comments from hotels and hostels that vouch that Rambo is a well behaved dog who doesn´t bark or pee indoors and is the softest, sweetest, luckiest dog alive.

Anything is possible folks

It was a honour to meet you guys and Rambo of course.

You can follow their awesome journey

I need to find a Yellow Lightsaber?

Wednesday, April 23rd, 2008

As an avid fan of movies, i often like to discuss the latest topics in couchsurfing.coms very own Film Group. It was here I recently met another film fanatic and surfer online, the cool and collective Antonio Queiroz Junior from Brazil. Although we have yet to meet, we have become soul mates on msn, he keeps me tuned into what movies are hot and not. I’m very excited to hit Brazil in the next few months and i’ll be sure to crash Antonio’s pad. We are already planning to shoot a short film about cs in Brazil, watch this space. I’m also over the moon to announce that Antonio has assumed the role as my Volunteer Portuguese Translator. Another vital role to my project.

It just gets bigger and bigger!

Soon as i find a yellow light saber, its on its way! Jaja

Princess Chloe Joins The Force!

Tuesday, April 22nd, 2008

Before i began my trip almost 2 years ago, the kind people at couchsurfing.com sent an email to all its 180, 000 members (at the time) about my intentions to Couchsurf the world. For a whole week my PC at home  continued to crash due to me receiving thousands of replies per day from wonderful, open minded people all over the world offering me a couch in advance. The characteristic and crazy colored hair Chloe Chandless was one such soul who has followed my every footstep since the day this project was born.  She believes in and supports my project so much she has kindly taken the role as my voluntary French Translator and has already began the process of working through my journals. I look forward to surfing her sofa in Ottawa and sharing an adventure together and can’t wait to sample her cooking skills. I still reckon my meatballs are the best in the world though!

Respect to Chloe, your Lightsaber is in the post.

Ave u seen Mar Mate?

Saturday, April 19th, 2008

One food i’ve been craving so much since leaving England is the weird and wonderful Marmite. A spreadable substance made from beer brewers yeast that’s used to ferment sugars into alcohol.

Up until 1680 brewers would simply dispose of the sticky substance believing its potent taste was just to strong and yucky to be used for anything else.

When German Scientist, Liebig discovered that brewers yeast cells could be concentrated, bottled and eaten, the birth of Marmite was on the horizon.

As a child i couldn’t even smell it and the taste of just a tiny speckle on my finger was enough to make me feel sick and want to heave.

My mother was an addict, spreading it on toast for breakfast or with cheese on a sandwich, i could never understand how it was possible to enjoy something so disgusting?

However one day a few years ago i was cleaning out the food cupboards in my house preparing for a new kitchen to be fitted. I stumbled across an old jar of Marmite that my mother had purchased many years ago, it brought back some wonderful memories of her cooking in the kitchen, her innocent laugh at my screwed up face as i frowned with each bite she took of her toast smothered with an inch deep of the devilish delight.

Throwing the jar in the bin i didn’t notice i had some Marmite stuck to my fingers. Whilst chewing a finger and deciding what cupboard to attack next my mouth was obliterated with its extremely powerful presence.

From that moment i was hooked, i couldn’t understand why, i made myself believe it was my mother inside me craving for her Marmite, i frantically attacked my bread bin and made myself a hearty sandwich with two pieces of ‘warbys’ bread and a blob of spread and ‘bobs ya uncle’.

During my stay in Costa Rica i met a couchsurfer who’s mother had brought a jar over from England. Everyday i would join him for a breakfast of Chedder Cheese and Marmite on toast, amazing.

Since then i’ve been trying to get my hands on a jar, friends have recently sent boxes to me from England yet the unreliable postal services of Latin America seen to have no clue as to the whereabouts of my missing boxes. i think someone in customs has the same addiction as me, ‘Get ya sticky hands of my beer jelly ya cheeky bugger’.

Recently i met couchsurfer Alain Sato online via the cs website.

Originally from Brazil but now living in London he receives hundreds of hosts every year. To help cure me of my Marmite fix, he has kindly offered to buy me a jar and will give it to the next surfer who crashes his house who will be heading to Brazil in the near future, the idea being that when i arrive to Brazil i can pick it up.

All this for a jar of beer scrapings!

Hell yer!

They say ‘you either love or hate it’

Imagine the day when you can buy your favorite beer flavored Marmite?

I wonder if its injectable? Hmmm!

The Indiana Jones of Ecuador!

Wladimir Ortiz was my amazing host during my two week stay in Rio Bamba. Due to weather permissions i never had the chance to join him for one of his more daring adventures or for the horse back ride across the highlands of the Chimborazzo. However i did trek through the most amazing valley surrounded by waterfalls and an active volcano, a remarkable memory indeed.

Each week Wlad tries to find time to follow a trail thats yet to be trampled with a thousand boot prints, hoping to discover new worlds and untouched lands which can be added to the list of places he can take you. He has recently created a new website for travelers visiting Ecuador without a Lonely Planet guide.

His trips are an unforgettable experience.

Two Surfers join the Force!

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

I’m excited to announce two new important volunteers helping me strengthen my project further more.

Mauricio Quito

and

Geancarlo Teran

are my new Spanish Translators.

Their offer to translate all the new and old content of my site is priceless. Its not an easy job and very time consuming, having to try and translate metaphors is proving very difficult however these guys have both the spirit and the want to help and have won my utmost respect.

GeanCarlo has already began translating my poems into Spanish, although the rhyme is often lost, the words and meaning stay the same so my point is still expressed.

Mauricio is currently working through my journals, so in time i can finally express my words to all of Latin America.

I hope to obtain the help of further volunteers as i pass each country and intend to offer the first multi lingual Blog so everyone can join me Couchsurfing The World.

If you want to be involved and can help translate any language in the world, please contact me at djajam@gmail.com

Couchsurfer set to be the next Madonna?

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

Sear Ze from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia recently joined couch surfing and contacted me about a possible Dj/Singer collaboration after discovering the new voluntary Dj Agency i’ve created for couch surfing Djs all over the world. The idea behind the new project is to have a voluntary dj in each city spreading across the globe who can be on call to spin for any upcoming cs events. Slowly the group is beginning to take form and i’m excited to have Sear on board as my first volunteer singer, her style of pop electro and catchy vocals promises an interesting future for this bright young star.
